Obbicht, Grevenbicht
Just outside of the urban centres lie the quaint Meuse villages of Obbicht and Grevenbicht, each with their own particular charm and identity. Both villages have a rich history that spans centuries and have a few typical Meuse-locations that are beckoning you to come and explore as you pass through during one of the pretty cycling and walking routes. The starting points of the cycling and walking routes are situated just outside the villages for an optimum, low-traffic experience. If you arrive by car and would like to explore the area on your bike, you can park at the market in Born. You can start your walking tour from the market square in Obbicht and the market square in Grevenbicht. In Grevenbicht you can also take the ferry across the Meuse to Belgium. Discover RivierPark Maasvallei on the bicycle. The practical junction network for cycling routes allows you to plan your route with the relevant numbers before your trip. When you embark on your cycling trip, all you need to do is follow the numbers that you have selected. The distances between the junctions are also clearly marked allowing you to plan routes between the junctions. The Dutch cycling routes junctions connect to those in Belgium. A historic city centre with a glorious past
Nothing completes a day out in a nature better than a hearty meal. The city centre of Sittard, the natural urban centre of the region, is easily reached from most of the villages along the Meuse. The lively historic city centre of Sittard with its prominent monumental buildings welcomes you with typical regional hospitality. The bustling market square with its vibrant café terraces is a great location to while away the time on sun-filled days, while you can indulge in the hearty Limburg cuisine at many of the cafés and restaurants throughout the year. The small meandering streets offer a wide selection of unique and cosy little shops.
