The Meuse is flanked by a number of charming and unique Meuse villages. Each village has its own character and landmarks that will pleasantly surprise any visitor.

These Meuse villages are a perfect setting for an accessible stroll or a snack and a drink in one of the available restaurants/cafés.

They are also the perfect place to find out more about the region's rich past. There are two ways to do this: go out yourself with the FARO Erfgoedapp or visit one of the many (regional) museums). The choice is yours!

Cultural hikes

In the free FARO Erfgoedapp, you will find heritage walks in the five Flemish Meuse villages of Kessenich, Aldeneik, Stokkem, Leut and Oud-Rekem. These walks take you past the most special historical buildings or places. Through animations, spoken texts or historical footage, you get a unique insight into the history of these villages. All together, these walks shine the light on more than 42 monuments in the Meuse Valley River Park.

The Erfgoedapp from FARO (support centre for cultural heritage in Flanders) is a free app used in many museums and city centres to unlock heritage. You can read short texts, scroll through old postcards, hear stories told or play videos about the area. If you have the Erfgoedapp installed, you will also receive a notification when you get close to one of the described monuments.

These heritage walks are a reworking of the RiverPark Maasvallei's so-called 'culture brochures'. These brochures are no longer available from now on.
