Gateway to the Meuse Valley River Park

In September 2022, Visitor Centre De Wissen officially opened its doors to the public. This brand-new visitor centre is the result of close cooperation with our partners: Visit Dilsen-Stokkem, Provincial Nature Centre and Limburgs Landschap.
Visitor Centre De Wissen is not only the new visitor centre for the nearby Negenoord-Kerkeweerd nature reserve. It also offers educational facilities for schools, tourist attractions in the city and extensive information on the wider area of the cross-border River Park Maasvallei (from Kessenich to Maastricht).
In this renovated visitors' centre, you will find a tourist information point as well as a fascinating exhibition on the Meuse in all its facets and an impressive viewing platform. The entire building, including the viewing platform, is accessible to wheelchair users via a lift.
Cooperating partners
For the renovated Visitor Center De Wissen, several partners join forces.
Limburgs Landschap vzw: owns and/or manages four nature reserves in the RivierPark Maasvallei. Negenoord-Kerkeweerd is one of them. They manage, preserve and improve about 500 ha of nature. In doing so, they are assisted by a herd of galloway cattle and konik horses.
Visit Dilsen-Stokkem: the new visitor centre will, among other things, function as the visitor centre of the tourist service of the city of Dilsen-Stokkem. There you will be able to find all the info you need about recreational activities in the municipality.
Provincial Nature Centre: is committed to a nature-rich and sustainable province. Schools can go there for an extensive nature and environmental education programme. Here at De Wissen, educational guides accompany primary and secondary school pupils on a playful, experiential tour of the nearby nature reserve.
RivierPark Maasvallei: Nature reserve Negenoord-Kerkeweerd is part of the wider landscape park 'RivierPark Maasvallei' along both banks of the Meuse. It extends from Kessenich/Thorn in the north to Smeermaas/Maastricht in the south. So the new visitor centre will also function as a 'gateway' to the cross-border RivierPark Maasvallei.
A bite to eat or drink remains possible in the recently renovated brasserie De Wissen. And accommodation also remains possible at this beautiful spot along the Meuse.
